The Free Gift

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

  • Salvation is a free gift from God. To be saved is to have eternal life. We receive eternal life through His Son the Lord Jesus Christ.

Romans 3:24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:

  • The word "freely" comes from the Greek word "dorean." This same word is also used as "without a cause."
    • John 15:25 But this cometh to pass, that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause.
    • While they hated Christ without a cause (for no reason), Christ, on the other hand, freely gives us, today under the dispensation of grace, justification (to be made righteous) by his grace.
    • And by His grace it certainly is!

Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.

  • We are saved by grace through faith, apart from works. It is a (free, i.e. freely given) gift from God. God did not have to do this for us, but he chose to do so anyway, because he loves us.
  • All we have to do is believe that he died on the cross for all of our sins, was buried, and rose again the third day (1 Cor. 15:3,4)!

Ephesians 1:13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with the holy Spirit of promise.

  • We hear the gospel (1 Cor. 15:3,4; Rom. 10:17)
  • We believe it
  • Then, we are sealed with the Holy Spirit

Salvation is a gift from God Himself that He freely gave us. It is by His grace that we are given this opportunity to receive eternal life. All we have to do is choose to accept this wonderful gift. That is done by just believing that the gospel (good news) of Jesus Christ dying on the cross for all of your sins, was buried, and rose again the third day. If you, the reader, have not believed yet, then please do so now. "Now is the accepted time...now is the day of salvation" (2 Cor. 6:2). For the Lord Jesus Christ can come back for His Body at any moment. Put your trust in the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Savior today. Once you do, you will have eternal life in Him and you will have been justified. Once you have believed and placed into Christ, you are eternally secure in Him.
